A planet is said to be combust (Asta) when its angular separation from the Sun falls below a classical limit: Mercury 14°, Venus 10°, Mars 17°, Jupiter 11°, Saturn 15°. During combustion the planet’s rays are drowned by the Sun and its significations are weakened.

Combustion (Asta) applies only to Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The Sun is the source of combustion and never combust; the Moon is rarely considered; Rahu and Ketu are lunar nodes and carry no angular-separation rule.
