మంగళ దోషం

Mangal Dosha (Manglik Dosha) occurs when Mars occupies the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house in the birth chart. It is considered to create challenges in married life — particularly in the areas of partnership, temperament, and domestic harmony.

Mangal Dosha is considered cancelled (or neutralized) when both partners are Manglik — the dosha in both charts offsets itself. Other cancellations include Mars placement aspected by Jupiter, Mars in its own sign or exaltation, and age (the dosha is believed to weaken after age 28).

The core placements (1/4/7/8/12) are the same. South Indian tradition sometimes adds the 2nd house. South Indian practitioners also tend to weigh Mangal Dosha more strictly than North Indian ones in match-making.
